4 C's IN LIFE & BUSINESS
My experience in corporate life has taught me a few things. My experience in my personal life has taught me even more. As I was pondering on how these two major life experiences intersect with each other, four words came to mind, and they all happen to start with the letter C.
1) Connection - Being with another person in an authentic way, without walls or barriers, without judgement or blame, is so meaningful and powerful. There are so many ways to connect that are fairly easy to do, but need to be done with intention. Listening, finding the good in the other person (and mentioning it!), and enjoying their company are small ways to connect that have a big impact.
2) Communication - This is the house that Jack built. If you're familiar with this nursery rhyme, it actually has nothing to do with Jack's house, but how the house is indirectly linked to everything else; how everything is interlinked. This is how communication works: It's not the actual talking that has anything to do with communication, it's how it links everything else together. This the foundation for everything else. Without communication at work or at home, things will fall apart.
3) Collaboration - This is the fun one. How can we work together to achieve the same outcome? Collaboration is the bus that gets everyone to the same place. This is harmony at its finest. Let's work for the good of us all, instead of just me. Who doesn't want that?
4) Courage - This is the not so fun one. If you've read anything by Brene Brown (please tell me you have), courage stinks sometimes. This is the sweaty palms, I don't want to do this, pit in your stomach, is there a cliff nearby I can jump from, kind of courage. But this is the courage that makes you a better human. There's no way out except through courage, and only the brave may apply.
